New rules announced by Ofcom are to make switching home broadband provider easier and quicker, in just one day where technically possible
Under a new process called ‘one touch switch’ all you are required to do is contact your new home broadband provider and you won’t need to speak to your current provider, it really is that simple!
This new way to switch applies to all home broadband users, this includes both cable and full-fibre customers. This allows you the ability to switch between different networks and technologies.
This new ‘one touch switch’ method will produce a quicker way to get a faster broadband package, a cheaper deal or even better customer service when you switch from your current provider. Now the change can happen in just one day, that’s one less thing to worry about!
With this change being highly complicated the new switching process won’t come into operation until April 2023. This will allow providers time to make the required changes to their systems for this new process to work quickly and effectively for customers.
If you wish to change providers before April 2023 you can still switch using these steps:
If your current broadband service runs on the Openreach network and you’re switching to a new provider that includes BT, EE, Sky or TalkTalk you can use the one stop switching process.
Under this process you will not be required to contact your current provider, instead your new provider can arrange the transfer for you. Your new provider will send you the details of the switch and an estimate of when it will happen.
If you are switching to or from a full-fibre broadband service or provider that doesn’t use the Openreach network for example virgin media, you will need to stop your service with the current provider you use and start a new provider you should contact both of the providers for your old provider to confirm your contract is ending so they can thoroughly explain any changes that might apply, then your new provider can let you know when your new contract will begin.
If you are switching a bundle service which includes a TV package there may be some difference which your provider will advise. If you have a landline and broadband service with the same provider switching your broadband may mean switching your landline services at the same time.
Whilst the above relate to home broadband connections, if you have any queries on switching or you require broadband for your business speak to Plum Communications.
